CHALLENGE #1

How might we better monitor large areas of private or rought terrain to support targeted maintenance?

Contract creation
and management

Inspections of pipe-tracks are common activities for water utilities. Inspections are performed manually every 12-24 months and can take several days with some tracks over 40 kilometres long. Pipe-tracks can be over steep and rough terrain, across both public and private land.

We are looking for solutions to help automate this process.

An example of such a solution might be the continuous 360-degree capture of images, and detection of irregularities such as overgrowth, damaged fences, felled trees and weeds, all of which would trigger maintenance activities.

Solutions might also include, but would not be limited to, data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), mixed reality (VR/AR/MR), data management, blockchain, internet of things (IoT) applications, application programming interfaces (API), algorithm-driven automation and reporting applications.

CHALLENGE #2

How might we drive behaviour change with respect to the consumption and treatment of water services?

Contract creation
and management

Behaviour of consumers is very important to the water cycle, especially in light of population growth and climate change. This extends to water consumption as well as treatment.

Water utilities have challenges with wipes being flushed down the toilet, as well as chemicals, fats, oils and greases being poured down drains.

We are looking for new technologies and/or solutions to help drive efficiency and behaviour change amongst citizens.

Solutions might also include, but would not be limited to, data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), data management, blockchain, gamification and incentive systems, internet of things (IoT) applications, application programming interfaces (API), algorithm-driven automation and reporting applications.

CHALLENGE #3

How might we forecast water demand at different scales more accurately?

Contract creation
and management

Modelling and forecasting water demand is a critical aspect of effective planning for water utilities, and many have existing modelling and forecasting tools for this process. However, most suburb and street level information is obtained periodically through surveys and is susceptible to being dated and not representative of an entire area.

We are looking for new and innovative approaches that could be useful for demand forecasting.

Solutions might also include, but would not be limited to, data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), data management, blockchain, internet of things (IoT) applications, application programming interfaces (API), algorithm-driven automation and reporting applications.
